Bill & Ngawai Webber are both of Maori descent. They farm a remote and beautiful block at French Pass in the outer Marlborough Sounds that has been in the family for generations. They also run farmstay accommodation on their property at the very end of the French Pass road, and Ngawai likes nothing better than to pack Bill and her guests off (with an excellent lunch) for a cruise aboard Manana. Manana is an superb seaboat, and there are dozens of bays, islands and great fishing spots in easy reach of day or liveaboard cruises.
Bill is a quietly companiable host whose comfortable familiarity with this remote waterway's past and with the people, birds, fish and plants living there today offers a connection to a world easily lost to urban lifestylers.
