The headland that shelters the rivermouth from which Allan runs his fishing and scenic charters was once home to a Maori pa (fortified village). Whalers and early european settlers, attracted by Karitane's abundant wildlife and good shelter, established homes along the coast, remnants of which are still visible today.
Allan is a commercial crayfisher who has fished the region for 20 years, gaining an intimate knowledge of the region. He has explored the river that empties in to the bay with kayaks and his jet boat, and now offers waterborne tours for NZ and overseas guests.
On saltwater trips, Allan will often drop off a lobster pot for his guests, and his knowledge of the area makes for fascinating scenic tours and highly successful fishing trips. |
