Oyster was built in 1903 by Baileys boat builders in Auckland for a Nelson client. She sailed to Christchurch in 1998 where Mike Rossouw of Jack Tar Sailing Company put her in to survey for classic boat sailing trips on beautiful Lyttleton Harbour.
With her centenary coming up in 2003, Oyster is the oldest charter sailing vessel in New Zealand. For the wooden boat enthusiast she provides a living insight into New Zealand's heritage of fast, innovative sailboats that have brought kiwi boat designers and builders world recognition.
